West Ham United and Middlesbrough drew 1-1 at the weekend.
West Ham United joint chairman David Gold has taken to Twitter to hail the performance of midfielder Pedro Obiang against Middlesbrough.
The 24-year-old had played just a single minute of Premier League action this season before Saturday’s clash, but his 90-minute showing against Boro suggested he will have a big role to play in the months ahead.
West Ham fans have been crying out for a change in the centre of the park and manager Slaven Bilic duly obliged – not before time – with Obiang adding some steel to that area and ensuring Mark Noble and Cheick Kouyate were not overrun as they have been in recent weeks.
Taking to social media after the game, Gold said, “Pedro Obiang returned to the first-team, producing a performance full of composure, resilience and maturity. He was outstanding.”
He certainly was, and he will be hopeful of quickly adding to his 42 appearances for West Ham to date.
The international break will give Bilic time to take a breath and assess his best options going forward, and when West Ham return to domestic action it will be against Crystal Palace on 15 October.
