West Ham United are reportedly closing in on Albian Ajeti.
West Ham United won’t be hugely busy on transfer deadline day, but may have one more move in the pipeline before the 5pm cut-off.
The Hammers have done most of their business already, signing two veteran goalkeepers in David Martin and Roberto Jimenez, whilst also adding a young defender in Goncalo Cardoso.
Their big arrivals were Pablo Fornals and Sebastien Haller, taking up a huge chunk of the club’s budget in the process, with both players expected to have a huge impact.
Some may be wondering why West Ham aren’t utilising the loan market, and haven’t at all since Manuel Pellegrini’s appointment as manager last summer.
In previous seasons, West Ham have taken the likes of Joe Hart, Joao Mario, Gokhan Tore, Jonathan Calleri, Simone Zaza, Carl Jenkinson, Manuel Lanzini, Victor Moses and Alex Song on loan.
That approach to the transfer market has ended under Pellegrini, and with the limited success stories in that bunch, it’s no great surprise.
One West Ham fan has now asked why West Ham aren’t going for loans, prompting co-chairman David Gold to suggest that West Ham already have a strong 25-man squad, mixed with youth and experience, so no loans are needed.
However, West Ham are seemingly pushing for one more signing, as Sky Sports claim that an £8million, £50,000-a-week deal for Basel striker Albian Ajeti, is close ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.
One West Ham fan sent their celebrations over the deal to Gold, and he told the fan to ‘steady on’ – but West Ham fans shouldn’t take that as caution about a deal, with the move seemingly close, rather that he was somewhat overawed by the huge praise.
