Could Alvaro Arbeloa succeed at West Ham United like Stephen Carr did at Birmingham City?

West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has written on the club’s official website that Alvaro Arbeloa will be a success.
The Premier League outfit recruited the former Liverpool defender on a free on transfer deadline day.
The 33-year-old full-back was a free agent following his release from Spanish giants Real Madrid at the end of last season.
Gold believes that Arbeloa will have a positive impact on the current West Ham team this season.

The English businessman has also compared the signing of the former Spain international to that of Steven Carr.
The 79-year-old recruited the former Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United right-back for Birmingham City back in 2009.
Gold has predicted that Arbeloa will prove to be a similarly successful signing for West Ham.

“Alvaro brings with him a wealth of experience and I am sure someone like Sam Byram will relish the chance to learn from one of the best right backs in recent years,” Gold wrote on West Ham’s official website.
“I can remember when we were in charge of Birmingham doing a similar kind of deal when we signed Steven Carr.
“Steven turned out to be a fantastic signing and was my player of the season. There is absolutely no reason why Alvaro cannot do the same.”
Arbeloa is 33 years of age and is past his prime, but he has a lot of experience and is going to be an asset for West Ham.
The Spaniard is going to help Sam Byram, who is 22 years of age, develop and improve his game.
West Ham will take on Watford at the London Stadium in the Premier League this coming weekend.
