West Ham United have been linked with both Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud and Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho so far this summer.

West Ham United’s chairman David Gold’s comments to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on 29th June on TalkSPORT, may just have ruled out a move for Kelechi Iheanacho this summer.

West Ham have been heavily linked with Manchester City forward Iheanacho throughout the transfer window to date, as reported by Sky Sports.

However, Gold has suggested that West Ham are looking for proven options this summer.

The Hammers co-chairman was asked whether West Ham were interested in signing Tammy Abraham from Chelsea, and his response was telling.

“We want proven, experienced centre-forwards,” he said. “Maybe in another season, when you’ve got experienced strikers in place, you bring him in [Tammy Abraham]. We’ve got young Fletcher that could be anything, we don’t know.

“In this moment in time we can’t rely on, and forgive me as this is part of the issue, teenagers and youngsters.

“We must get top, top quality players in at this time.”

Gold’s comments would suggest that Iheanacho may not be West Ham’s top target this summer.

Although the Nigerian international looks to be a hugely exciting talent, he is not yet entirely proven at Premier League level.

Iheanacho only made five starts in England’s top flight last season, with most his appearances at City coming as a substitute.

Gold’s quotes make West Ham moving for Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud look far more likely.

The Daily Mail suggest that West Ham are looking to snap up 30-year-old Giroud, and he would fit in with exactly what the London club appear to be looking for this summer.
