West Ham United co-owner David Gold has taken to Twitter to put an end to rumours.
Stressed: West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic
Three months into the new season and West Ham United are yet to see one of their strikers score a single goal.
That alone tells the story of a woefully bad first quarter of the Slaven Bilic’s second season at the Hammers helm which sees his side sitting precariously in 17th place, one point above the bottom three and with a hellish set of fixtures to come after the international break.
Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho, two strikers who could surely help their team out of their current mess, have been injured all season and fans are starting to ask questions.
Diafra Sakho celebrates scoring for West Ham
While Carroll’s woes have been well publicised, gossip and rumour about Sakho has ranged from being excluded from the squad altogether after falling out with Bilic to being on the verge of a long awaited comeback.
West Ham were at their frightening best under the former Croatia boss last season when the Senegal star led the line, stretching opposition defences with his tireless running and bringing others into play.
Injuries and off the field problems saw Sakho lose his place in the team culminating with a falling out with his manager ahead of last year’s 3-3 draw with Arsenal at Upton Park.
Sakho at his best makes West Ham tick
The Hammers were never as fluent without him and the striker looked set for a £16.5 million move to West Bromwich Albion only to fail a medical.
He has not been seen in a West Ham shirt since and the club have been very guarded over his recovery and potential return to action.
West Ham co-owner David Gold
But now co-owner Gold has taken to Twitter in an attempt to quash rumours and set the record straight.
“I’m confident Sakho will be back soon,” Gold revealed on the social networking site.
“It’s been a complicated injury which he has fully recovered from.”
Whatever has gone on in the past between Sakho and Bilic there is no getting away from the fact Sakho’s mobility, pace and aerial threat have been a big miss and on form he is the man who makes the Hammers tick.
While it may go against his principals, Bilic must now find a way of reintegrating and reinvigorating the African as desperate times call for desperate measures.
