West Ham take on Chelsea this evening, with Andre Ayew potentially in the squad.
West Ham co chairman David Gold
West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has taken to Twitter to state that Andre Ayew should be in the squad to face Chelsea tonight.
The Hammers continue their EFL Cup campaign this evening having narrowly beaten League Two side Accrington Stanley 1-0 last time, but this time it’s Chelsea they lock horns with.
West Ham United’s Andre Ayew receives medical attention before going off injured
After two 1-0 wins in the Premier League over Crystal Palace and Sunderland, West Ham have some confidence in the ranks, and will be hoping to grab another win this evening.
Manager Slaven Bilic may look to rotate his side, and one player who could be in line for an appearance is attacker Andre Ayew.
Chelsea’s John Terry in action with West Ham United’s Andre Ayew
The Ghanaian, 26, joined West Ham from Swansea City in a £20.5m deal (West Ham official website) back in August, but has played just 35 minutes of action for the Hammers having suffered a thigh injury on his debut for the club away at – ironically – Chelsea on the opening day of the season.
With 12 Premier League goals to his name last season, Ayew will bring another attacking weapon to Bilic’s side, and fans are understandably keen to see him make his return from injury.
West Ham co chairman David Gold
In fact, ahead of tonight’s game against Chelsea, West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to ask co-chairman David Gold whether Ayew will be in the frame.
Gold responded by first saying he hopes that Ayew will be in the squad tonight, before adding that the attacker – who can play out wide or up front – should be available for selection after more than two months out.
