There was a heavy sense of irony when West Ham United co-owner David Gold criticised a supporter this week.
Many West Ham fans are far from happy with co-owners David Gold, David Sullivan and their vice-chairman Karren Brady.
Supporters feel they have been betrayed over the club’s decision to leave Upton Park with broken promises over transfers, ambition and the London Stadium.
Fans are planning a protest march next month against the owners to make their feelings clear.
Gold, who has made something of a habit of upsetting fans on social media, took to Twitter this week to criticise a fan with comments which smacked of double standards.
The supporter suggested the club needed new owners who are willing to invest in ‘decent players’ to which Gold responded: “Don’t you think our current players would find your comments insulting?”
Gold’s response is rather ironic given his penchant for putting his foot in it when it comes to alienating players by belittling them on social media.
Robert Snodgrass and Jose Fonte have both been publicly criticised by Gold and Sullivan.
Gold has also made a fat joke about former striker Benni McCarthy and was criticised by another ex-Hammer Keiron Dyer after he publicly revealed how much the retired midfielder had cost the club in wages.
Fans’ favourite goalkeeper Adrian also had his nose put out of joint by Sullivan with comments about Joe Hart being Hammer of the Year after signing for the Hammers on loan.
Gold’s comment did not go down well with fans savaging him and pointing out his comments were rich considering his own tweets on players employed by the club.
