West Ham United co-owner David Gold has aimed a dig at his Queens Park Rangers counterpart Tony Fernandes on Twitter.

The Hammers are suffering a poor second season under Slaven Bilic and currently sit 12th in the Premier League a far cry from the dizzy heights of last term.

Some supporters are unhappy with how life is panning out at the club’s new Olympic Stadium home following the summer move from their beloved Boleyn Ground home of 112 years.

Those fans feel the club has lost its soul in the big move to the 60,000 seater ground, which lacks the intimidating atmosphere and close proximity to the pitch which made Upton Park so famous.

Some supporters also feel co-owners David Sullivan, Gold and vice-chairman Karren Brady have broken promises over transfer spending and elements of the stadium move and relations with some fans are strained.

One such supporter took to Twitter to tell Gold and Brady they have ruined the club.

But Gold hit back and in doing so aimed a dig at QPR chairman Tony Fernandes, the businessman and Hammers fan who unsuccessfully rivalled the two Davids for ownership of the East Londoners back in 2010 before eventually taking over at Loftus Road.

“I admire your loyalty to your club but in January 2010 just before our club went into administration you had two options dg/ds (Gold/Sullivan) or Tony Fernandes,” Gold said on Twitter.

“There was a third option ‘administration’ I await your choice.”

It’s hard to argue with Gold’s sentiments given QPR are currently scrapping towards the bottom of the Championship to avoid relegation to League One.

Fernandes and the two Davids became embroiled in a war of words after the takeover saga and Sullivan and Gold publicly condemned his bid to buy the club.

Sullivan branded his offer as derisory, telling London’s Evening Standard: “He wanted 51% of the club for two bob.”

Fernandes responded – as reported at the time by the BBC: “Make up your mind Sullivan and Gold. One minute you say no offer then you say it’s a joke.

“It was a good offer with good money and brought in good people.

“Gold and Sullivan can say whatever they want. I have been a lifelong fan and would have brought good money, good ideas, new people and a new belief.

“As for PR stunts. Wow. They are always in the press making huge claims.”

The dust has long since settled on that row but it appears Gold wanted the last word and has chosen a time when the two sides are separated by 27 league places to do it.
