Tottenham Hotspur suffered yet another poor result last night.
Speaking to Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT on November 29, David Ginola has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is searching for somebody like him.
Tottenham have taken one point out of a possible nine over the past 10 days after losing 2-1 at Leicester City in the Premier League last night.
Pochettino’s side, who sit fifth in the table, will be 16 points behind Manchester City at the summit if they beat Southampton at the Etihad tonight.
Despite topping their Champions League group, Spurs’ domestic form has been nowhere near as impressive and Pochettino, who spent some £80 million in the summer, might well reinforce his squad once again when the January transfer window opens for business.
And former Lilywhites and Newcastle star Ginola reveals that the Argentine manager told him that he is hunting a similar player as the legendary French winger.
“I spoke to Mauricio Pochettino the other week. I was at Spurs’ training ground and he actually said ‘I want someone like you’ to take the ball from midfield and run with the ball,” he said on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT this morning.
“And this is what he’s searching for right now.”
Spurs’ wide options have increased a little after Erik Lamela returned from a 12-month layoff at the King Power, though there is arguably deadwood in the form of Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Moussa Sissoko – signed as a winger – that could be strengthened.
At this point, you get the sense that Pochettino should prioritise the Champions League over winning the Premier League, though finding an established, top-class winger who is eligible to play for them in the competition after Christmas could be tough.
Pochettino’s side, who have lost three away games this season, visit Watford on Saturday.
