The Newcastle United boss is reportedly considering a shock exit.

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez

David Ginola has told talkSPORT that his former club Newcastle United simply must back manager Rafael Benitez in the transfer market.

The Independent reported on Sunday that the Newcastle boss has considered leaving the Magpies over “the club’s inability or reluctance to secure his top transfer targets” after missing out on a number of players this summer.

Newcastle had been linked with Chelsea starlet Tammy Abraham for much of June but The Mirror have reported that the young hitman is unlikely to end up at St James’s Park, while Ruben Semedo previously snubbed Benitez for Villarreal.

Christian Atsu remains Benitez’s only signing this summer after making his loan from Chelsea permanent this month, and Ginola warns that it could be “too late” for United in the transfer market unless the Spanish coach is backed financially.

“You need to provide a manager like Rafa Benitez with all the amenities to help him be successful in the Premier League,” he told talkSPORT.

“Just give him the possibility and the chance [to be successful]. The fans are so happy to be back in the Premier League and they need to see the club a little bit more involved [in the market].

“You can’t just stand there and watch around. Players will go around and sign for clubs and all of a sudden it is too late.”

Newcastle won the Championship last season and it would be a shame if owner Mike Ashley and the club’s board did not provide Benitez with an adequate budget in which to enjoy a fine return to the top flight next term.
