David Ginola believes a player sold by Tottenham Hotspur five years ago is exactly what they need right now.

Tottenham, who finished as runners up in the Premier League last season, have slipped from third to fifth after failing to win any of their last three games.

Tuesday’s defeat at Leicester City was Spurs’ second in that time, and discussing his old side’s problems on Talksport on Wednesday morning, Ginola suggested they could do with a player in the Luka Modric mould.

“I think for Spurs right now – for [head coach, Mauricio] Pochettino – it is trying to find the right player who will just be just behind Harry Kane, the one who will dictate a little bit more.

“Someone like Modric. Modric is the type of player Mauricio needs in his team, someone who can put the foot on the ball.”

Modric proved an extremely popular figure during his four-season spell at White Hart Lane, but was prised away by Real Madrid at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.

Since then, the 32-year-old has won one league title, one domestic cup, three Champions Leagues and is a two-time Club World Cup winner.

He has faced his old side twice in recent months, but could only manage a point, with Tottenham seemingly saving their best form for Europe.

Would Modric solve Spurs’ problems?
