The striker has been linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer.
David Fairclough insisted that Divock Origi will sign a new contract with Liverpool this summer, when speaking exclusively to the Mirror, amidst rumours that the Belgian could leave Anfield.
Fairclough made his name at Liverpool as somewhat of a super-sub, scoring a plethora of goals after coming on as a substitute for the Merseyside outfit, and Origi is beginning to build a similar reputation.
The Belgium international scored in the Champions League final against Tottenham, after coming on as a late substitute, and he is a popular figure at Anfield.
Spanish media outlet Estadio Deportivo claims that the 24-year-old is a £17.9 million summer target for Real Betis, and with just one year remaining on his current deal, Liverpool might just be tempted to sell.
Fairclough was adamant that Origi will not be going anywhere this summer, however, when speaking exclusively to the Mirror:
“Origi will sign a new contract, for sure. There’s no question about that. He doesn’t want to go out now and slog around somewhere. The fans sing about him and love him. It gives you a great lift when you’re coming on and the crowd are singing about you.”
Should Origi stay at Anfield, he could be a really important player for Liverpool next season, especially with Daniel Sturridge having left on a free transfer.
Much will depend on whether Jurgen Klopp can guarantee the Belgian more regular playing time, because he is at an age now where he will want to be contributing on a consistent basis.
And if his isn’t given that guarantee, he may decide to leave Liverpool before the start of next season.
