The Arsenal manager is into the final year of his contract at the Emirates.
Quoted by the Daily Mail, former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein has warned that Arsene Wenger will be impossible to follow at the club.
This week was a big anniversary for the Frenchman as he celebrated 20 years in charge of the Gunners.
He is into the final year of his current deal this season and so far all indications have been that he will depart at the end of the campaign.
A whole host of names are likely to be linked with the job should the Frenchman leave the Emirates Stadium but Dein has warned that his successor will have a difficult job on his hands.
“He won’t be a difficult to act to follow… he will be an impossible act to follow,” the Daily Mail quotes him saying.
“He’s been at the club for 20 seasons and every year has been in the Champions League (since 1998-99) so to anyone wanting to change the manager I say to them that the next person is highly unlikely to do that.”
It will certainly be interesting to see what route the Arsenal hierarchy go down when it comes to replacing Wenger.
They may well like the idea of another low-key appointment but the failure of David Moyes at Manchester United is likely to have turned them against that idea.
A big name manager to compete with the likes of Antonio Conte, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp seems the more likely option.
One may be difficult to find, though, given the game’s top managers are all mostly locked into big clubs already.
