Everton were linked with a move for Sheffield United midfielder David Brooks during the summer transfer window.
Back in June, The Telegraph reported that Everton were keen on pursuing a deal for Sheffield United midfielder David Brooks after his brilliant displays at the Toulon Tournament where he was named as the player of the competition after helping England lift the trophy.
Of course, Brooks would remain at Bramall Lane beyond the end of the transfer window. But based on his most recent performance for the Blades, it would be no surprise if the Toffees maintained an interest heading into January, and if they were not the only side keeping a keen eye on the 20-year-old.
Brooks was part of the Sheffield United side that took the spoils in the first Steel City derby for five years, claiming their first win over the Owls since 2009 and their first victory at Hillsborough for 11 years – when Brooks was just eight years of age.
The youngster was lively throughout the game, winning the free-kick that led to the opening goal following a brilliant run that drew the foul from the Wednesday defence.
Though it is widely accepted that Everton’s midfield is an area of the squad where they do not lack any depth – especially in an attacking sense – Brooks’ bright performance should have certainly caught Ronald Koeman’s eye.
He has shone in the Toulon Tournament and now in one of the biggest fixtures United will face all season, and that suggests that he is a player who is capable of raising his game for the big occasion.
