Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been one of the most improved players in the Championship this season.

There is no doubt that Kalvin Phillips has been one of the most improved players at Leeds United since Marcelo Bielsa walked through the doors last summer. Therefore, it isn’t a surprise to see his name being touted with Premier League clubs.

The Daily Mail claims that Bournemouth are interested in signing defensive-minded Phillips, alongside recently promoted Norwich City.

If Phillips were to make the move to Bournemouth then there is no doubt he could thrive under the stewardship of Eddie Howe given how he has nurtured young talent over the years.

Last summer, the Cherries signed Sheffield United playmaker David Brooks for £11.5 million, as reported by the Bournemouth Echo. At the time, Brooks was an unknown figure, now he’s a Wales international.

Given time and the right platform, which Howe does provide for his young talents, then 22-year-old Phillips can have the same rapid rise as Brooks.

The Elland Road faithful will want to keep hold of their star man for next season as they push for promotion once again. Losing him would result in him becoming difficult to replace.

But Phillips, who thrives when he is playing in front of the back four, would be a perfect shield for Bournemouth’s backline and attack-minded team in general.

Marcelo Bielsa has played a fast-paced and very demanding style of football this term and there’s no reason why Phillips wouldn’t be able to transcend those performances to Howe’s side, who plays an equally entertaining attacking brand of football.

Not only that, he would complement a player like Brooks very well and under a manager like Howe take that next step in his career by improving even further and perhaps becoming an England international.
