Tottenham were said to be keen on David Brooks before he signed with Bournemouth.

Bournemouth swooped in surprisingly unopposed for Sheffield United talent David Brooks in the summer, clinching a £10 million deal.
Brooks has made an impressive start in the Premier League, scoring five times in 17 games. At just 21, the attacking midfielder has great potential.
Tottenham were claimed by The Sun in February to want Brooks, identifying him as a star of the future.
At first glance it looks like Tottenham made an error not snapping up the Wales international.
His Premier League form may have caught them off guard. He has more goals for Bournemouth than he did in the Championship the whole of last season (3).
Yet at the same time, Spurs are just too good for Brooks right now.
Tottenham’s 5-0 victory over Bournemouth highlighted the gulf in class between the two teams, and the high level which the North London side are performing at.
Brooks is thriving at Bournemouth. At Tottenham he would be struggling to get a game.

Tottenham are at the stage where they are pushing for titles. They are notoriously reluctant to spend, and only top level elite players will improve their first team.
Brooks can get to that level, but he isn’t ready yet.
With the level Spurs are performing at right now, a number of potential signings will end up cast aside. Brooks is one example of a player they would previously have been ready to gamble on. This time they felt there was no need.
