World Cup fever is taking over again, and David Beckham and his mum have now become part of the fun through McDonald’s latest football promotion.
McDonald’s are leaning into the tournament with a collector’s item offer tied to McDelivery and pickup orders. Beckham is one of the football names involved, which made it even funnier when his own mum Sandra opened her cup.
She did not give the reaction most people would expect. Instead of being delighted to pull a cup with her son on it, she made it very clear there was another legendary player she had been hoping for.

David Beckham’s mum jokes she wanted Thierry Henry instead of her son
The promotion gives customers the chance to get one of nine collectible cups with their meal. The cups feature Lamine Yamal, Son Heung-min, Thierry Henry, Ronaldinho, David Beckham, Alphonso Davies, Christian Pulisic, Santiago Gimenez or Grimace.
In the clip posted to Instagram, Beckham’s mum opens the cup to find her son’s face staring back at her.
Most parents would probably see that as the ideal outcome, but she had other ideas.
“Oh no, I wanted Thierry,” she said.
In fairness, Henry is not a bad choice.
The former Arsenal and France forward won the World Cup in 1998 and was part of the squad that reached the final again in 2006.
Beckham, meanwhile, played at three World Cups for England and produced plenty of iconic moments, but never managed to lift the trophy.
