Could Sir Alex Ferguson bring back Becks to aid United’s title charge?
Manchester United are winning games, but in a back-to-basics way, and seem to be lacking a spark since their 6-1 defeat to City.
Who better to provide it than former hero David Beckham?
Beckham has come to the end of his spell in America, ending it with a trophy this weekend, and will be a free agent in January.
PSG, QPR and even Blackburn have been linked with a move, but there is one club Beckham would drop everything for.
Would Sir Alex be willing to let bygones be bygones and bring him back for six months?
He signed an ageing Henrik Larsson in January 2007 who helped the side on their way to winning the Premier League, setting a precedent for such a move.
There is no doubt Beckham would bring a feel good factor to Old Trafford and get the fans buzzing.
He would clearly be a quick fix and a short-term option, but many of United’s transfer targets may be cup-tied in Europe and unavailable until summer.
His dead ball delivery is as good as it ever was, and Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez would surely thrive on it.
Beckham will have the motivation to force his way into the summer British Olympic team and will be happy to play a part when asked, and will be keen to show he is not past it.
Reuniting with former pals Giggs, and Scholes behind the scenes would be a dream for Beckham and what better motivation than closing the gap on noisy neighbours Manchester City.
The signing would be the perfect swansong for Beckham’s career, and could be exactly what United need.
Over to you Sir Alex…
– United fans, would you want Beckham to rejoin between January and May?
