David Beckham has praised Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, for ‘leading the way’ after England reached the final of Euro 2020, as he posted on his Instagram story.
The Tottenham superstar scored the winning goal that helped the Three Lions beat a spirited and technically-gifted Denmark side at Wembley last night.
Extra time was needed for England to book their first major tournament final since 1966 – and boy did they make it nail-biting.
Going a goal down – the first goal the Three Lions have conceded this tournament – didn’t help proceedings, but this team showed fight and spirit like no other English side, since 66′, has shown before.
Beckham was used to many pressure moments during his career, but nothing like what Kane and his teammates will face against Italy on Sunday.
Nonetheless, this was the six-word verdict posted by Beckham on Kane from his Instagram story today: “Well done skipper. Leading the way.”
What a time for Kane to find his shooting boots after he was questioned by some during the group stages.
The old saying ‘Form is temporary…’ and Kane is shoving that right in the face of critics because he now has four goals in the knockout stages.
Both he and Raheem Sterling have built quite the partnership in the final third and it will be the key to unlock a very difficult Italian defence.
It is going to be some competition and battle between Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Kane on Sunday.
Plus, that fast-moving, quick-thinking and energy-sapping Italian midfield and forward line will want to eat Gareth Southgate’s more pragmatic, no-nonsense and lightning-quick team up into one.
