Rangers defender David Bates has told The Scottish Sun that Celtic hitman Leigh Griffiths might be a better striker than Moussa Dembele, after facing him last week.

The 21-year-old’s long-term future at Celtic seems in doubt at the moment as a number of Premier League sides reportedly try to coax him from Glasgow.

Dembele started in last week’s 0-0 draw with Rangers but was then replaced with Griffiths early in the second period after a rather subdued showing on what might be his last game for the Hoops.

Bates came up against both for the Gers last week, and the 21-year-old suggests that Dembele is no better than the Scottish marksman in his opinion.

“Celtic have such a great squad. Leigh Griffiths comes on and he’s just as good, if not better,” the Rangers ace told The Scottish Sun.

“We’ve all seen what he has done for Scotland and he’s scored a lot of goals for Celtic.”

Many Celtic fans might agree with the young Ibrox star.

Griffiths scored 40 goals in all competitions during the 2015-16 campaign under Ronny Deila and although Dembele had a superb first season last term, he only bagged 30.

But manager Brendan Rodgers might even struggle to keep hold of him, if rumours are to be believed as The Daily Mail claim that Swansea City are keen, but surely losing him and Dembele in one the window is not an option.
