Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are set to hand David Bates a new contract in the near future.

Bates has enjoyed a fine breakthrough season at Rangers so far, with the defender’s performances impressing.
The centre-back is expected to receive a new contract in the near future, with Graeme Murty’s side planning to keep him at Ibrox for the long-term.
And Bates has suggested that he will be more than happy to commit his long-term future to Rangers.

“Of course I want to be at Rangers. I have supported the club since I was young,” Bates said.
“When I first came into the side it was a dream, and hopefully I can stay involved as long as I can.
“I want to play here and we will see what happens. There haven’t been any developments on that front.
“I just need to keep playing my football, and these things will take care of themselves.”
Bates has now played four matches for Rangers, with current boss Murty clearly a big fan.

The youngster will be hoping to start in Rangers’ next match, which comes against Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup after the winter break.
Bates has played a key role on Rangers’ tour of America, and has looked sharp.
If Bates does pen a new contract at Rangers, it could push Bruno Alves further towards the exit door at Ibrox, with the experienced Portuguese defender likely to move on in the coming weeks.
