Are Liverpool planning to phase out Alberto Moreno this summer by signing David Alaba?

According to The Mirror, Liverpool are one of a host of teams interested in signing Bayern Munich star David Alaba.

The Austrian left-back admitted that his future was “open” in a quote which seems to have put some of Europe’s elite clubs on high alert.

Early days, of course, but if he does wind up at Liverpool would it suggest that Jurgen Klopp is finally going to get rid of Alberto Moreno?

At £12 million, Moreno, brought to Anfield by Brendan Rodgers, has been one of the Reds’ worst signings in recent years, constantly posting suspect performances.

Andrew Robertson has replaced him as Klopp’s left-back this season, but the signing of Alaba would surely be the final nail in Moreno’s coffin on Merseyside.

The Spaniard was heavily linked with an exit last summer but wound up staying, though few could argue that there is a future for him at Liverpool if the German manager goes and signs a left-back of Alaba’s quality.

Moreno’s exit has been on the cards for quite some time, and Klopp would effectively open the door for him by bringing in the 25-year-old.
