Rangers chief wants to trim the club’s squad.
Glasgow Rangers chief Dave King spoke yesterday at the club’s AGM and discussed his desire to trim the club’s playing squad.
King told the club website: “It is important to get a balance as the squad is still quite large at the moment.
“I think even the manager recognises we probably do have too many players in the squad so we are going to have to look at trimming it down in any event.”
This is not great news for returning Rangers flop Carlos Pena.
Pena is reported to be headed back to Scotland after his loan at Necaxa was cut short early, the Daily Record reported.
There was potentially a chance Pena could have been integrated back into the Rangers side to prove himself to boss Steven Gerrard.
This is still plausible, but King’s comments make this less likely.
If Rangers are looking to cut their wage bill, then Pena will be top of the list.
He is one of their higher earners and is not featuring for the first team.
His disappointing loan spells in Mexico may make him more difficult to shift, but Rangers are likely to put some efforts into selling him or cutting his deal short.
