King says Rangers ‘should have news to report shortly’ regarding the vacant manager’s position at Ibrox.

Rangers ‘should have news to report shortly’ regarding the vacant manager’s position at Ibrox, chairman Dave King has told the Daily Record.
It is more than a month since Rangers sacked Pedro Caixinha, something for which King and co have faced much criticism.

The 62-year-old defended the delay, however, telling the Daily Record: “We’ve taken the appropriate amount of time for an appointment we view will be for the next three-three-and-a-half years.”
There is little indication yet, though, as to the identity of Rangers’ next manager. However, King has hinted it could be someone currently in work.
He is quoted as telling the Daily Record that shortlisted candidates do include those “already under contract” and added: “we should have something to report on that shortly.”

King’s comments are likely to spark renewed speculation about Derek McInnes, the former Rangers midfielder and current manager of Aberdeen, who were beaten 3-0 at Ibrox on Wednesday.
McInnes has long featured among the bookies’ favourites to succeed Caixinha, but has repeatedly affirmed his commitment to Aberdeen.
It has been reported that it would cost £750,000 in compensation to prise McInnes and his assistant, Tony Docherty, from Pittodrie.
Graeme Murty is likely to remain in temporary charge for Sunday’s trip to Aberdeen.
