Mark Warburton is looking to have a big Rangers squad at Ibrox.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Glasgow Rangers chairman Dave King has confirmed that manager Mark Warburton is keen on having a big squad in the Scottish Premiership next season.
Rangers confirmed their return to the top flight last season as they won the Scottish Championship comfortably.
They did so with a small squad though, with Warburton electing to go with a relatively youthful setup for the campaign.
That is not a plan that would work in the Premiership however, with fans expecting them to challenge Celtic for the title at the first time of asking.
Rangers will need a bigger squad to do so and King has confirmed that is the plan set out by Warburton, although they are keen to avoid it being bloated.
“The manager has had ample time to plan his recruitment strategy,” he told rangers.co.uk.
“This season will see a greater emphasis on a larger, more experienced squad while still giving room for the younger players to develop. The squad will however be appropriately larger without being bloated.”
The work undertaken so far by Rangers certainly seems to tally with what King says about wanting a bigger squad next season.
They have already brought in five new faces, with the likes of Joey Barton, Clint Hill and Jordan Rossiter all signing on early in this transfer window.
It now remains to be seen what other business Rangers look to do, with next season looking likely to be a big one in the Scottish Premiership.
