Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers side will see plenty of Celtic fans at Ibrox for Old Firm games, but Dave King says the opposite will also be true.
Writing on Rangers’ official website, chairman Dave King has assured the club’s supporters that Celtic fans do not receive a bigger allocation than they do for Old Firm games away from home.
Rangers are set for their return to the Scottish Premiership next season after a four-year absence, having dominated the Championship last term to win promotion.
With it, the Gers will renew hostilities with their bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic on a fairly regular basis, with a potential for four local derbies in the Premiership alone.
Considering there’s only been two meetings in four years, both sets of fans will be relishing the prospect of coming up against one another next term – and for good reason.
They will surely be cracking meetings by virtue of the fact that both clubs have enjoyed good transfer windows so far, with Rangers bringing in eight new faces – including the outspoken Joey Barton, who has had plenty to say about the Hoops already -while Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic have managed to recruit the highly-rated Moussa Dembele.
Indeed, Old Firm dates will be ones to savour in the 2016-17 campaign, and King has stressed via the club’s official website that Celtic will not bring more fans to Ibrox than Rangers will on their trips to Parkhead.
“Some of our supporters have difficulty with the fact that Celtic fans receive a whole stand at Ibrox, whereas our fans are in a predominantly corner section at Celtic Park.
“However, this is largely due to the physical structure of both stadia. In reality – and by agreement – both teams receive the same number of tickets for away games.”
