Dave Cormack shares text message from Derek McInnes

Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers have been unable to bring former Gers midfielder Derek McInnes to Ibrox as Pedro Caixinha’s side successor.

Dave Cormack has revealed to The Scottish Sun the text message that Rangers managerial target Derek McInnes sent him amid interest from the Ibrox club.

The Aberdeen director has revealed that McInnes sent him a text message on Tuesday declaring his love for the Dons.

It was actually on Tuesday that the Dandies rejected Rangers’ approach to speak to the former Gers midfielder.

Then on Thursday evening, first Aberdeen and then the Ibrox club released statements on their respective official websites about the situation.

With Rangers’ pursuit of McInnes now over, Aberdeen director Cormack has revealed what the 46-year-old former St Johnstone and Bristol City manager told him via text on Tuesday.

Cormack told The Scottish Sun: “Derek texted me on Tuesday night at midnight and said he loved Aberdeen, he loved managing the team and he loved what we have created.

“We were 100 per cent convinced he wanted to stay here and we were always confident that would be the case.

“Derek is still with us and he’s with us for all the right reasons. We rejoice and we welcome the game at Dens Park on Friday night. We also welcome Derek’s decision.”

It seems that McInnes has already decided by Tuesday that he did not want to leave Aberdeen.

While Rangers must be disappointed with the former midfielder’s decision, it is time that they look elsewhere for a permanent successor to Pedro Caixinha.

Both Rangers and Aberdeen are aiming to finish second in the Scottish Premiership this season.
