Dave Allen is eyeing a high-profile opponent for his next fight just weeks after capturing his first belt in professional boxing, as he finally looks to compete against the sport’s elites.

Allen got his revenge after devastatingly knocking out the undefeated champion Johnny Fisher, months after his controversial split-decision loss to him.

The ‘White Rhino’ won his first belt in professional boxing at the ripe age of 33, winning the WBA Intercontinental heavyweight title, and is still hoping to reach the heights once expected of him.

The Doncaster-born fighter has faced some big names in his career, including Luis Ortiz, Dillian Whyte, and David Price, but the next man he is eyeing up is a bigger challenge than anyone he’s ever faced before.

Dave Allen interested in Deontay Wilder fight

Allen has confirmed his interest in fighting heavyweight giant Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder amid speculation in the past week.

Speaking to Matchroom Boxing, the White Rhino said: “Yeah I’d like to box Deontay Wilder, that’s what has been talked about, and that’s the one I would like.”

Wilder has a phenomenal record at 43-4-1, but with four losses in his last five fights, Allen could be catching Wilder at the perfect time to springboard himself into stardom with a win over the former WBC champion.

Allen is known for his toughness and durability, but more importantly, for his willingness to engage in close exchanges, similarly to Wilder.

Both fighters have been criticised for their fighting styles in the past, particularly their boxing technique, but Wilder hasn’t forgotten criticism from two boxing legends.

Deontay Wilder doesn’t like Mike Tyson or Lennox Lewis

Heavyweight boxing legends Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson have both been critical of Wilder in the past.

Although they acknowledge that his punching power is second to none, they have alluded to his technique as a flaw in his game.

Wilder did not take too kindly to these claims from the former World Champions, telling CBS Sports in 2018:

“Instead of hating on these guys coming for the top or worrying about their legacy getting run over for what they did in their era, that era is gone! This is the new era over here.

“They should praise the new guys like the other countries, where every other former champion is behind their people.

“But in America, it’s different. Nobody wants to see anybody become bigger than the one before them. Nobody’s legacy is going to be passed.

“Those guys are subject to their own opinion. I don’t get upset when guys come and clap back and say certain things.

“I don’t get upset when Lennox Lewis wants to defend one of his era brothers. Although Lennox fought Tyson way past his prime, I don’t find offense for that, and it doesn’t bother me.”

This long-standing feud hasn’t aged well for Wilder, given how his career has panned out since his losses to Tyson Fury, just falling short in cementing himself as one of the greatest of all time.

A fight between Allen and Wilder would be of great importance for either man, but for completely different reasons, and is a match-up boxing fans would love to see.
