The new Magpies recruit says Ipswich boss McCarthy was understanding of his desire to leave.

New Newcastle United signing Daryl Murphy has shared details of the conversation he had with Mick McCarthy which led to his exit from Ipswich Town – via the Belfast Telegraph.
Former Sunderland striker Murphy returned to the North East on Sunday in a deal which, according to Sky Sports, is worth an initial £3 million.
The Republic of Ireland international had been with the Suffolk side for the best part of five seasons, hitting double figures for goals in each of the past three.
However, at 33 years of age, Murphy is fast running out of time to play, once again, in England’s Premier League – a problem of which McCarthy was understanding.
Discussing his exit from Portman Road, Murphy told the Belfast Telegraph: “Obviously it wasn’t easy, but as I said to the manager, I said: ‘I can’t turn down this opportunity, it’s not going to happen to me again’, and I think he understood that.

“Obviously he didn’t want me to go, but I think he understood that I’m not going to get that chance again.”
Other than fellow Ireland call-up Ciaran Clark, Murphy is yet to meet his Newcastle teammates, owing to the international break.

However, he could bump into another in Aleksandar Mitrovic when his side face Serbia at the weekend.
“We’ll see how the result goes first,” Murphy added.
Despite getting his big move, Murphy is yet to score in this season’s Championship – though did make two goals for his former colleagues at Ipswich.
