Wolves’ Dominic Iorfa (L) in action with Newcastle United’s Daryl Murphy
Newcastle United striker Daryl Murphy has told the Chronicle that manager Rafa Benitez has advised him to remain patient in his search for first team minutes.
The striker joined the club in the summer transfer window in a move from Championship rivals Ipswich Town.
He arrived at St James Park to add further competition to their forward line that already contained Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez.

Indeed, given the talent already available to Benitez, Murphy knows that he is not guaranteed a starting place in the team at any point.
And the striker has shared the message his manager has given him in regards to that.
“He just told me to be patient and I’d get my chance,” he told the Chronicle.
“The team’s been flying so I knew it wasn’t a case of coming here and just playing immediately, I knew it wasn’t going to be like that because there’re some very good players here who are all battling for positions.”
Daryl Murphy celebrates after scoring the second goal for Ipswich
It remains to be seen if Murphy does get many first team minutes for Newcastle United this season.
So far they have not struggled for goals, with them already managing 16 goals in their first eight games, the joint second best record in the division.
Unfortunately for Murphy, that means a change is unlikely to come anytime soon and he may have continue being patient as he waits for his chance to impress.
