Nottingham Forest forward Daryl Murphy has spoken to the media ahead of Saturday’s Championship home game against Hull City and sought to make the fans aware of just how big a difference they’ve been making for the players with their support.

The Reds have sold out five of the last six matches at the City Ground (Forest Twitter) even though the team’s form has been somewhat hit-and-miss in recent months, which is testament to a loyal, devoted and passionate fanbase.

Forest lost their last league game, a 2-0 defeat at Stoke City, but put in a solid performance to beat bitter rivals Derby County 1-0 in the preceding game – up-and-down performances and inconsistency very much a common theme in the last few months.

However, the Championship playoffs are still relatively within reach, just four points separating the Trickies from sixth-placed Bristol City, who however have a game in hand on Martin O’Neill’s side.

Speaking to the official club website ahead of the meeting with the Tigers, Murphy said it would be a tough game against a side level on points with them, but is hoping they can emulate their performance against Derby and banged the drum in a bid to conjure up an intense atmosphere.

“I don’t think the fans realise how big a factor they play in our performances because they give us such a boost,” he said. “It gives everyone a boost and the whole place has been hopping all season really. I think they can help now more so than ever because we know how important the games are and the fans realise that as well. If they can help us, then brilliant.

“They are turning up in their numbers and we wouldn’t expect anything less as they have been like it all season, even away from home. They have come out in their numbers and cheered us on and that won’t change between now and the end of the season.”
