The striker joined the Magpies from Ipswich Town on Sunday.
Daryl Murphy has told Newcastle United’s official website it was a no brainer to join the club.
Murphy made the move to St James’ Park on Sunday in an undisclosed deal from Championship rivals Ipswich Town.
He becomes the club’s tenth signing of the summer so far as manager Rafa Benitez has sought to overhaul his squad as they look to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
And commenting on the move he says it was a no brainer to join, adding that he believes there is no doubt that they can be challengers at the top of the table this season.
“When I knew the club was interested, it was a no-brainer for me so I’m happy it’s all done,” he told the club’s official website.
“I think with the squad of players that the club have now, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.”
Murphy will now be hoping he can break into the Newcastle first-team and be a regular for them this season.
He faces a fight to get in, with Ayoze Perez, Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic all providing stern competition for places in the Magpies’ forward line.
The 33-year-old guarantees goals in the Championship though and that could be a factor that sees Benitez elect to make him first choice before too long.
