The Newcastle United star was reunited with the Crystal Palace boss on Wednesday night.
Newcastle defender Daryl Janmaat admits it was strange to reunite with former boss Alan Pardew on Wednesday night, according to the Shields Gazette.
Janmaat joined Newcastle from Feyenoord for £5 million last summer and has since impressed in the right-back slot at St James’ Park.
For the Dutchman, however, it was always going to be ‘strange’ to see the manager that signed him standing in the opposite dugout at Crystal Palace.
Janmaat was pictured shaking hands with his former boss but insists Newcastle’s focus had to lie away from the 53-year-old.
On the game itself, meanwhile, the 25-year-old says he was happy with the Magpies’ defending during the 1-1 draw at Palace.
“It was going to be strange,” Janmaat is quoted as saying.
“But we had to focus on the game and not the manager. We defended quite well. I can live with the draw.”
Newcastle travel to Manchester City in their next Premier League clash after their Crystal Palace trip, the side they knocked out of the Capital One Cup earlier this term.
Under current boss John Carver, though, the Tyneside outfit have only won once – and the Magpies failed to hold onto their lead against Pardew’s Crystal Palace side.
Newcastle sit 11th in the Premier League as things stand, with Palace five points further back in 13th.
