Darwin Nunez endured what has to be described as one of the worst Anfield debuts of all-time on Monday.

The Uruguayan striker was sent off for a complete moment of madness after he headbutted Joachim Andersen in the second-half of the match, and, if it weren’t for a moment of utter genius from Luis Diaz, he would’ve cost Liverpool all three points.

Nunez had a nightmare debut, that’s for sure, but as ever, footballers have to learn from their mistakes, and 24 hours after his red card, Nunez has taken to social media to address the fans.

The striker is seemingly very apologetic for his actions, and we’re sure it won’t take long for Liverpool fans to forgive him.

As unacceptable as violent conduct is on a football pitch, it has to be said that these things do happen to even the best and most level-headed players.

Steven Gerrard had his moments – including a famous one against Manchester United, Jamie Carragher has had numerous moments of madness, while Jordan Henderson has also seen red in the past.

Liverpool fans will know as well as any fanbase that this is the time to get behind a player – especially a new signing, and this misdemeanour will probably spur Nunez on to make up for his mistakes when he returns – which may well be in the Merseyside derby against Everton.

This red card is certainly an early setback in Nunez’s Liverpool career, but this will by no means define the 23-year-old’s Anfield stint.

The striker will come back stronger from this and it probably won’t be long before this is forgotten by all parties.
