Darwin Nunez is set for Liverpool and Jamie Carragher believes that he immediately forms part of Liverpool’s strongest front three next season.
Liverpool are losing a part of their famed front three this summer Sadio Mane prepares to leave for a move to Bayern Munich.
The days of Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah as Liverpool’s clear front three are coming to an end.
Liverpool are gradually re-tooling their attack; first it was Diogo Jota’s arrival and then the signing of Luis Diaz in January.
Now with Mane on his way out, Liverpool can add their next attacking star in Benfica striker Nunez.
Darwin Nunez is set for Liverpool
Benfica have already confirmed that Nunez is heading to Liverpool in the coming days.
The Uruguayan hitman will cost up to €100million (£85million) with Liverpool securing an agreement for his signature.
Nunez, 22, racked up 34 goals and four assists in 41 games last season, becoming one of the top strikers in Europe.
Nunez even scored twice against Liverpool in the Champions League and is now poised to become a Red himself.
Not everybody can enjoy an instant impact like Luis Diaz but would Nunez immediately go into Liverpool’s starting XI?
The answer to that question is yes in the view of Jamie Carragher as he named his strongest Liverpool front three.

Carragher told Sky Sports that he thinks the Liverpool attack should by Diaz on the left, Salah on the right and Nunez through the middle.
“I think at the start of next season, Liverpool’s strongest front three would be Mo Salah, Nunez and Diaz on the left,” said Carragher.
That means Nunez immediately going in over Diogo Jota at Liverpool despite the Portuguese international’s goal record for the Reds.
Jota’s all-round game can be frustrating at times but he is a fine poacher in the box.
It may well be that Liverpool primarily look to use Jota’s goalscoring ability as an impact substitution, but with so much money being spent on Nunez, the Uruguayan will surely secure a key role.
