Neil Lennon has been offered the Celtic job after guiding them to the treble treble this season.
Darren O’Dea has slammed the Celtic supporters of a ‘younger generation’ and claimed that they are spoilt after Neil Lennon came under some flak towards the end of the season.
The Northern Irishman replaced Brendan Rodgers in the Parkhead dugout in February, and despite losing only one game and pushing them towards two more trophies, their performances did come under scrutiny.
Even under Rodgers, Celtic’s performances had been criticised by some fans, but they still walked away with three more trophies to their name.
Former Scottish Premiership player O’Dea, who played under the stewardship of Lennon, shared his thoughts on the big expectations at Parkhead.
“The fans are a huge part of the club, they are a voice which is heard, so he is probably trying to manage that. It is clever management,” O’Dea told the Daily Record.
“But you can’t ever dampen the fans expectations. At Celtic it is win or lose, Lenny knows that more than anyone. He is probably just trying to calm things down.
“Are they spoiled? Probably. Certainly the younger generation, but that is life at Celtic. The pressure is enormous. You are expected to win every game, regardless of what has gone before. Regardless of the treble treble, you are judged on the next two games. That is life at Celtic and Lenny knows that.”
After Lennon helped Celtic win the Scottish Cup against Hearts at Hampden, he was offered the managerial job for next season, as posted on the club’s official Twitter account.
It remains to be seen whether Lennon does take the job on, but it is highly likely that he will be walking the touchline of Parkhead next term.
The up and coming summer is going to be huge for Celtic and their quest to continue their dominance in Scotland and win nine-in-a-row.
