West Bromwich Albion failed to get a win against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup last night.

Darren Moore has suggested to the Express and Star that he does not see West Bromwich Albion youngster Sam Field starting at centre-back for the long-term.

Field was selected to start for West Brom last night against Crystal Palace, but he struggled out of position.

West Brom were beaten 3-0 in the contest, and even Moore admitted that he doesn’t see Field as a long-term solution at centre-back.

“I’m learning about my team,” said Moore. “We’re trying to develop it and move forward.

“Do I see him playing there permanently? No. I see him playing there as an experiment. We’ll continue to look at it.”

West Brom don’t have a wealth of options at centre-back, so Field was forced to play there last night.

The youngster is considered to be one of West Brom’s brightest prospects, but he has had a slightly frustrating time of late.

There were calls from the Hawthorns crowd to be used more regularly last term, but he was constantly overlooked, and Moore has not picked him all too often this time around.

West Brom’s next match comes against Preston North End at the weekend.
