The West Bromwich Albion winger has struggled for form since joining the club last summer.
West Brom boss Darren Moore spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Luton Town at the Hawthorns last night, and backed Oliver Burke to go and and make a big impact for his team this season, as quoted by the Express & Star.
The 21-year-old joined the Baggies from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £15 million, but he struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular with the Black Country outfit.
Burke scored his side’s winner against Luton last night, however, and that will surely give him the confidence to go and and stamp his authority on the West Brom first-team this season.
Moore certainly agrees with that notion.
The Baggies boss spoke to reporters after his side secured their place in the third round of the Carabao Cup, and offered high words of praise for Burke and the professionalism that he has shown during his time at the club, as quoted by the Express & Star:
“I was very pleased for Oli to get the goal. It will do him the world of good. It’s always nice if you have a player who can play a couple of positions and he looks equally comfortable up front. I thought he held himself very well. He’s been patient, he’s persevered, worked hard in training, and continues to do so. Its another option for me and great for Oli. We’ll pick the bones out of that as a coaching staff over the next 24 hours.”
Next up for West Brom is a home game against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, and Burke will be hoping for another chance to impress.
