West Bromwich Albion were far from their best against Birmingham City last night.
West Brom manager Darren Moore spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham City last night, and criticised their performance, although he did find the time to praise Sam Johnstone’s display, as quoted by the Express & Star.
The Baggies were many fans’ and pundits’ favourites to win promotion to the Premier League this season, but they have made a fairly underwhelming start to life in the Championship, taking just 11 points from their opening seven outings.
Moore’s men will undoubtedly have to go on a winning run sooner rather than later, if they are to cement their place inside the top six, or they will be constantly chasing those above them in the table.
The West Brom boss spoke to reporters after his side’s draw with Birmingham, and insisted that they were quite simply not good enough, although he did praise the performance of one of his players, as quoted by the Express & Star:
“I just thought most of it was down to our own problems. We gave the ball away needlessly at times. That was the most frustrating thing. Our use of the ball wasn’t as clean and effective as it has been in recent weeks. The penalty save was a game-defining moment,” said Moore. “It was a fantastic save. It gave us a chance to steady ourselves a little bit. He’s a fantastic goalkeeper and will only get better. It allowed us to go and try and win the game, although we weren’t able to.”
Next up for the Baggies is a home game against Bristol City on Tuesday night, and Moore’s men will be desperate for a victory to get their season back on track.
