Darren Moore comments on Kyle Edwards and West Brom fans

West Bromwich Albion put themselves second in the Championship with the emphatic win at The Hawthorns.

In comments reported by the Express and Star, Darren Moore has suggested that Kyle Edwards was fantastic in West Brom’s win over Reading on Saturday, while he also reserved praise for Tyrone Mears and spoke about the fans.

The Baggies go into the international break second in the Championship following the 4-1 victory at The Hawthorns. But it appeared for some time like it may prove to be an incredibly frustrating afternoon for Moore’s men as the Royals took an early lead.

Dwight Gayle’s brace followed by goals for Harvey Barnes and Kyle Bartley saw the home side turn the game completely around in the second-half. And three of those goals came after Mears had been replaced by Edwards.

The substitution prompted an interesting reaction amongst the Baggies fans as they cheered the change. Mears provided the assist for the first goal, but has struggled to win his doubters over since arriving in the summer.

And while Moore was full of praise for Edwards’ performance once he came on for his league debut for West Brom, he also suggested that he was happy with Mears’ display during the first hour and went on to discuss the fans cheering the substitution.

“Kyle Edwards was fantastic. While I don’t like to give individual praise, I want to single both him and Tyrone Mears out,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star.

“Tyrone came in and played three games in seven days, when he came in he wasn’t fit so that shows great testament to him.

“It was his cross Gayle scored from so great credit to him. I’ve said it to him in front of the group and I’ll say it to you too. The first goal was the turning point.”

“The fans come and get behind the team, they do get behind the team and they will have to continue to do that for the duration of the season,” he went on to add when asked about the supporters.

“It’s a tough long season. We need them all, every single one of them plays a vital part. I thank them all for contributing to a vital three points.”

Given how difficult it is for relegated teams to bounce back and get promoted at the first time of asking, Moore must be almost delighted that his side are second in the table and the division’s top goalscorers by some distance, with the fans still feeling that there is more to come from the Baggies this term.
