Darren Fletcher has suggested to Sky Sports that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard should cash in on Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers striker Morelos is on the radar of Lille, who are preparing to make a bid of £17 million for the Colombia international striker, according to The Daily Record.

The 24-year-old has reportedly agreed personal terms with the French club, and former Manchester United and Scotland international midfielder Fletcher believes that if the striker is not committed to the cause for Rangers, then the Gers should sell him this summer.

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has also suggested that the Gers should sell the Colombian, while ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton has criticised him.

Fletcher told Sky Sports about Morelos: “I think when a player has potentially agreed terms with another club, you don’t want to dim the value of your player.

“If Morelos is motivated and wants to be with Rangers then he’ll be great for the season, but if he’s not, and he is disinterested and he is carrying a bit of weight, then Rangers are better cashing in on him and bringing in two or three replacements with the money that they get.”

Kris Boyd told Sky Sports: “Personally, I am getting to the stage where if Rangers are going to get a substantial fee, that they do deserve, for Alfredo Morelos’ performances, I would take it because when you give someone or his representatives permission to go and speak to a club you are looking to sell them, obviously.

“When you do that it will play in the player’s mind. For me, it’s probably coming to the end of Alfredo Morelos’ Rangers career.”

The Daily Record quotes Sutton as saying: “Rangers have the situation where it looks like their main player, their top scorer Morelos, the talk I’ve been seeing he wants away. Does he have the stomach for it? It doesn’t seem that way, he wants to jump ship.”

Stay or leave?

Morelos did well for Rangers against Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership at the weekend, as the Gers won 1-0.

The importance of the Colombian to Gerrard’s team cannot be underestimated, and if the Gers do sell him, then they will have to find a suitable replacement who would hit the ground running at Ibrox.

Rangers are aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title this season and stop bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic from making it 10 in a row.
