On Sunday morning, Tottenham completed the signing of Doherty from Premier League rivals Wolves.
Just a couple of hours later, Spurs posted a video on Twitter showing the right-back deleting two posts on the social networking site he had previously made sharing his love and support for Arsenal.
Tottenham and Arsenal are bitter North London rivals, but now it seems that the Republic of Ireland international is fully committed to Spurs.
Former Tottenham striker Bent is a boyhood Arsenal fan, and the talkSPORT pundit has given his take on Doherty deleting his previous tweets on Arsenal, and so have some Tottenham fans as well as ex-Spurs defender Graham Roberts, as shown below.
Bent said on talkSPORT (4:44pm, August 30, 2020): “I think what they have done there is quite clever, Spurs, because there are going to be Spurs fans out there, (saying), ‘Well, he’s an Arsenal fan’, and they are not going to be happy with it because I know what Spurs fans are like, well, most.
“But it’s quite clever with how they have made him delete the tweet. And for £15 million as well, by the way, that’s a bargain for me. I think he’s a top, top player.”
Ex-Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes that Doherty is a very good signing for the North London club.
Jenas wrote on Instagram: “Top signing this! Coys.”
Meanwhile, Roberts has urged Tottenham on Twitter to now sign a centre-forward, a central midfielder and a left-back.
Tottenham will be aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table next season.
