Chelsea’s Reece James will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Trent Alexander-Arnold in these coming seasons as the Liverpool man is regarded as one of the best fullbacks in the country.

Darren Bent has claimed that Chelsea’s Reece James is as good as Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold from a technical, passing and distribution standpoint.

Former Premier League striker Bent admitted that he has been left in awe of the Chelsea youngsters talents as he stated that ‘it’s crazy’ before he made the comparison with the Liverpool man.

Right-back James was handed his first Premier League start on Saturday as Chelsea saw off Crystal Palace, with the 19-year-old enjoying a fruitful battle with Wilfried Zaha on the flanks.

Speaking to GameDay Verdict TalkSport (10/11/19 at 8:45 pm), Bent shared his thoughts on James’ talents and how he compares with Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold.

“I’m such a big fan of this kid, it’s crazy,” Bent told TalkSport. “The only unfortunate thing is that the only person who plays in the same position as him is the captain. And that is the only thing.

“You can tell Lampard is desperate to get him in now and play him because he’s ready to go. I mean you look at his technical ability on the ball, he’s just as good as Trent [Alexander-Arnold], passing and distribution, he’s just as good. And he’s a big, powerful kid as well. He’s built. He’s massive.

“I honestly think that right-back position for England, at the minute, is unbelievable. It’s going to be some fight for that spot in the next 10 years.”

Under the stewardship of Frank Lampard, Chelsea have been thriving this season as they are sitting in the Premier League’s top-four.

Whilst a transfer ban on the club would have seemed problematic before a ball was kicked this season, it has proven to be a blessing in disguise for those youngsters coming through the academy.

From Tammy Abraham to James, every single one of them, at this moment in time, is thriving and they are not just proving their worth in the Premier League, but in Europe too.
