TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has said that David Raya should move to Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea, not to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has said on talkSPORT (4:13pm, August 1, 2023) that he is surprised that David Raya wants to move to Arsenal, adding that he should look at a potential transfer to Chelsea instead.

Bent has noted that Raya is a better goalkeeper than Chelsea’s Kepa, saying that the Spain international could become the number one between the sticks at the Blues.

The pundit is not sure why the goalkeeper would want to move to Arsenal and compete with Aaron Ramsdale for a place in the starting lineup.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Arsenal are trying to sign Raya from London and Premier League rivals Brentford in the summer transfer window.

Romano has claimed that the 27-year-old goalkeeper has reached an agreement with Arsenal over personal terms.

Raya has reportedly told Brentford that he wants to join Arsenal.

David Raya told to join Chelsea, not Arsenal

Bent said about Raya: “He is better than Kepa. So why would Chelsea not then go?

“Why would David Raya not go, ‘Hold on, why am I going behind Ramsdale? Why don’t I go to Chelsea and be their number one?’

“There’s something not quite right with the David Raya deal because that’s the one I would go, if I were Chelsea, give me him.”

Aaron Ramsdale is the number one goalkeeper at Arsenal at the moment.

It would be tough for David Raya to dislodge Ramsdale from his position.

Ramsdale does make mistakes from time to time, but he is an England international now and can only get better.

Kepa makes more mistakes than Ramsdale and has not always been great between the sticks for Chelsea.

As Darren Bent notes, it would make sense for Raya to move to Chelsea and compete with Kepa for a place in the starting lineup.

It would be easier for Raya to get into the Chelsea starting lineup than into the Arsenal first team.
