Darren Bent has claimed Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has taken a ‘sly dig’ at chairman Daniel Levy.

Pochettino raised eyebrows during his pre-match press conference for Ajax on Tuesday by revealing via The Telegraph that he ‘could do something different’ if he leads Spurs to the Champions League title this season.

Fans of the North London club on Twitter interpreted it to mean that the Argentine would walk away if he delivers the trophy, which would be his first since joining the club in 2014.

It would be an extraordinary achievement by virtue of the fact that Pochettino hasn’t been given money by Levy to sign a player since Lucas Moura in January of 2018.

And Bent, speaking on Sky Sports News [07/05/2019], reckons that his comments may represent a ‘dig’ at Levy.

“Maybe it’s not a dig but it’s a sly nod to Daniel Levy by saying these things as if we get to the summer and there’s no money to spend or there’s only a little bit then there’s no more I can do if we win the Champions League.

“I’ve taken the club as far as it can go by winning this tournament so maybe it was a sly dig at Levy.”

Pochettino’s side visit Ajax tonight for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final.

They are underdogs to reach the showpiece in Madrid on June 1 after the Dutch giants scored a potentially priceless away goal in last week’s 1-0 win in North London.

Daniel Levy takes his seat in the stand for the game during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland at White Hart Lane on September 18, 2016 in London, England.
