Cody Gakpo is making Liverpool proud as he is lighting up the stage at Euro 2024.
The Netherlands star had an indifferent Premier League campaign last season and probably flattered to deceive at times.
But no one can argue that Gakpo is proving to be one of the best players at this summer’s Euros, with his team in the quarter-final stages ahead of their clash against Turkey.
There will be many Liverpool fans who will argue that Gakpo has been the star of the tournament with his three goals and one assist, but Darren Bent disagrees with that.
The former striker acknowledged that the Liverpool forward has been ‘really good’ and his performances ‘don’t surprise’ him because he did the same at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

But Bent thinks Germany star Jamal Musiala has been the best player at Euro 2024 so far, as he told talkSPORT (03/07/24 at 5:10 pm).
The 21-year-old is on the transfer radar of many clubs and he is interesting the likes of Liverpool, as HITC revealed in April.
But Bayern Munich, who went trophyless for the first time in 12 years last season, have no intention of letting him go.
You can understand why because he has scored in three out of four games and is proving why he is so highly regarded.
Liverpool transfer target Jamal Musiala praised
“So, my player of the tournament so far, I have gone for Jamal Musiala for Germany,” said Bent.
“I think he has been absolutely incredible. He has got a couple of goals as well. Just real quality. He has three goals in the tournament so far.
“Every single time he seems to get on the ball, it just gives everyone in that German team a lift. He can go past people. He can create. He’s quick and direct. I was going to go Cody Gakpo, who is having a really good tournament, but I am going to go for Jamal Musiala.”

Jamal Musiala praised
The former England youth international is playing at a high level in Germany and for one of the biggest clubs in the world.
But you just feel it would be a shame if he doesn’t bring his talents to the Premier League stage one day.
He would be perfect for Liverpool and would help transform their transitioning midfield, but not even Jurgen Klopp could probably persuade the powers that be at Anfield to pay record fees for the Munich playmaker, never mind Arne Slot.

Musiala had the chance to represent England’s senior side, but went down the road of playing for Germany instead.
He has already won four German titles and the European Cup, but you feel plenty more trophies are to come and perhaps the best one of them all could be winning the European championships on home soil.
