Tottenham Hotspur and Everton could be in the market for strikers this winter.
Darren Bent has championed a move to either Tottenham Hotspur or Everton for the Chelsea striker, Olivier Giroud.
Bent, who is now retired, spent two seasons at Tottenham in the late 2000s but knows all about Giroud having kept a keen eye on him while the Frenchman played for his beloved Arsenal.
Giroud is currently struggling for game time at Chelsea – for whom he has played little more than 200 minutes of football this season – and has been backed to leave Stamford Bridge in January with his contract up at the end of the campaign.
Discussing where the 33-year-old is likely to end up, Bent told Talksport on Thursday evening: “The most ideal situation would be Everton.
Giroud is an out and out centre-forward and I don’t think they’ve got one. Also when you’ve got players like Richarlison, Bernard, (Gylfi) Sigurdsson and these guys – (Alex) Iwobi – they can play off him because he’s a big target man.
“I think they should go for him, because they need that.”
“But, kind of an off-the-track one would be maybe Spurs, because they’ve only got one recognised centre-forward, which is Harry Kane. Now if he was to get injured – we’ve seen them put Lucas Moura up there who is not a centre-forward.
“There is that whole Arsenal aspect. But as a back up to Harry Kane, I think that would be perfect for him.”
It could be argued that Everton’s Cenk Tosun is a player who is similar in style to Giroud, although the Turk’s equaliser against Tottenham on Sunday was his first club goal all season.
Tottenham had one of their own in the shape of Fernando Llorente, but released the Spaniard at the end of last season.
