One win and one goal in five matches is not exactly the start promotion hopefuls Derby County were hoping for as they currently sit 18th in the Championship table.

Last season’s play-off semi-finalists had high expectations this season but after losing 1-0 to newly promoted Burton Albion in their last match, concerns are starting to set in.

But regardless of how the side have started, County striker Darren Bent believes his side will turn things around eventually.

“It’s not been the start we would have wanted, especially with us getting the new manager and the new coaching staff in.” the 32-year-old said on Sky Sports News HQ on Wednesday September 7.

“We would have liked to have started off a bit quicker, but to be fair we’ve looked reasonably solid but it’s just at the other end we need to be creating more chances and scoring more goals.”

The Rams welcome Championship favourites Newcastle United to Pride Park on Saturday, a place where the home side are yet to score or concede in the League so far this season following 0-0 draws against Brighton and Aston Villa.

Derby are unbeaten in four matches against the Magpies who currently sit fourth in the table following three straight victories and Bent is eying a first home league victory of the season this weekend.

“In time (the goals) will come because we believe in our squad and our players that we’re good enough to turn the corner,” he continued.

“It’s been a slow start but the Championship is a long season and you don’t want to peak too early.

“As I say we’re confident and the players are going to turn sooner or later and we’ve got a big game starting Saturday against Newcastle.”
