Darren Bent has told TalkSPORT (Tuesday, 9:30AM) that he believes Leeds United will now be relegated to the Championship – after the Whites slipped into the bottom three, after Everton secured a 2-1 away win over Leicester.
A 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, albeit with a spirited second-half display, has seen Leeds drop into the bottom three for the first time since October. Leeds now face Chelsea on Wednesday, with arguably the toughest run in.
They also face a Brighton side who beat Manchester United, and then Brentford – who are firing on all cylinders. The Bees’ striker Ivan Toney even teased Leeds on Twitter this week, reacting to a video from 2020.
Burnley, meanwhile, take on Tottenham away, Villa away and then back to Turf Moor against Newcastle. Everton have the best run in with Watford, Brentford and Palace. Bent thinks it is Leeds that will be relegated.
“I think Leeds will go down. When Marsch got the wins, I thought that was them safe. But since then, Everton and Burnley have picked up wins. I look at Leeds’ run in, unfortunately I think it is going to be Leeds.”
Bent on Leeds: What does Marsch need to do to avoid the drop?
Injuries to Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford and Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling’s suspension has ripped the core out of Marsch’s side. Next up, Chelsea, and Leeds are nailed on to suffer another defeat on Wednesday.
What Leeds need to do, is to firstly get something against Chelsea. Defend as they did in the second half against Arsenal. Fight for their lives and try to make something happen on the counter attack. But it looks bad, for Leeds.
