Christian Eriksen is looking to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Darren Bent has told Sky Sports he believes that Christian Eriksen could yet stay at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Denmark international said this week that he was interested in quitting Spurs, having joined from Ajax six years ago.

The Tottenham midfielder has struggled for his best form throughout 2019 and few fans of the North London side will be surprised by Eriksen’s desire to move on.

Eriksen is reported by The Evening Standard to have informed the Lilywhites’ chairman Daniel Levy and manager Mauricio Pochettino of his intentions less than two weeks before the Champions League final defeat by Liverpool last Saturday.

Real Madrid have long been linked with a move for the 27-year-old, but former Tottenham striker Bent suggested to Sky Sports that the former Ajax man won’t be going anywhere unless Levy’s valuation of him is met.

Bent, who spent two years at White Hart Lane, said: “It’s not going to be a foregone conclusion that he’ll leave Spurs, because I know how they operate, and if it doesn’t make sense for the football club then he won’t be going anywhere.

“It’s a catch-22. As a manager, you want to keep your best players at the football club but you’ve got to look ahead as well.”

Bent is right. Levy has a reputation for his hard-nosed negotiating and, despite Eriksen only having one year to run on his existing deal, Tottenham will get a good deal for him. That’s a guarantee.

But with Real Madrid preoccupied with trying to lure Eden Hazard from Chelsea, it remains to be seen if the Spanish giants will be interested in the Dane.
